Project Highlight: Inland Rail – Biodiversity Offset Strategy
Natural Capital Consulting personnel played a key role in assisting the Inland Rail project
with one of the largest biodiversity offset requirements ever undertaken by a single
proponent. Our work focused on engaging landholders to develop biodiversity stewardship
sites and managing all aspects of land acquisition for offset use.
This included overseeing valuations, negotiating purchase prices, preparing purchase
contracts, and developing purchase option agreements. We also facilitated easement
agreements and advised the broader project team on efficient, value-for-money approaches to
property management—whether retaining land for agistment, leasing, or planning for
eventual divestment.
